What is Kate Jane Rae?

Kate Jane Rae is a women-owned, modern-minded sewing and crafting brand founded by a mom and her two daughters (the name Kate Jane Rae is a combination of our three middle names). We aim to make the world a more colorful place by offering curated kits and fabric bundles alongside premium handmade goods we proudly craft ourselves.

Where are you located?

We’re based near Indianapolis, Indiana (Fishers and Pendleton, specifically). Every order ships straight from our sewing rooms here in the Midwest.

Do you really make all these products yourself?

Yes! If you see a finished bag, case, blanket, quilt, etc. for sale on our site, it was made by one of us. You can browse all our handmade goods here.

Will you make me a custom bag/quilt/project?

Possibly. It depends entirely on what you’re asking for. We can’t make any promises - and it will be expensive - but if you have something in mind, send an email to help@katejanerae.com and we’ll let you know if your project is a possibility.

Do you offer gift cards?

Kits, Patterns & Bundles

What comes in a kit?

Our kits include all the fabric you'll need to complete a specific project. Some may also include hardware and/or webbing. You'll need to supply the basics (like thread), tools, and any extra material you plan to add (batting, stabilizer, etc.)

We'll spell out exactly what's included in each kit's product description so there are no surprises.

Do your kits include the pattern?

In most cases, patterns and kits are sold separately. Here’s why: patterns are reusable (you only need to buy them once), while the fabric and materials in the kit are designed for a single project. This way, you don’t pay for extra copies of the same pattern when you want to make a design more than once.

In some instances, we’re able to bundle the kit and pattern together at a special price lower than buying them separately. And when we can’t bundle, we always link directly to the exact pattern on the kit page (and vice-versa) so you never have to worry about picking the wrong one.

Can I buy patterns by themselves?

Yes! If you already have a fabric stash calling your name, our standalone patterns are a great option. Browse our available patterns here.

Do I need a sewing machine to make these projects?

The short answer is yes - a sewing machine is almost always required.

Could you do it by hand? Technically, yes - but only if you enjoy months-long projects and finger cramps🙃. We’ll stick to the sweet hum of our sewing machines!

Do I need to be an expert to use your kits?

No! We do our best to give each pattern and kit an accurate difficulty ranking in the product description. If you’re looking for beginner projects you can knock out quickly, click here.

What if I get stuck?

If you’re stuck, email us at help@katejanerae.com. We’ve made almost all of the patterns available on our site at least once, and we probably got hung up at the same spot ourselves!

Do you sell fabric by the yard?
My precuts aren’t the same size...

That can (and does) happen. Different brands cut precuts a bit differently - especially when there are pinked edges. Some sizes include the zig-zag, some don’t.

Our advice? Before you start making, give your pieces a quick measure and trim them so they all match.

If something in your bundle is significantly miscut, email help@katejanerae.com and we’ll do what we can to make it right.

Orders & Shipping

How long will it take to get my order?

We will do our absolute best to get your order out the door in 3-5 business days (faster if we can!); delivery usually takes another 2-5 days (depending on the carrier). You will get an email with tracking information as soon as your order ships.

We are a small, family-run business fulfilling orders from our sewing rooms - please cut us some slack if we’re running a bit behind. If you placed an order and are waiting longer than expected to hear that it shipped, email help@katejanerae.com and we’ll look into it!

How do I track my order?

As soon as your order ships, you’ll get an email with tracking info so you can follow it all the way to your doorstep.

Do you offer expedited shipping?

We are only able to offer standard shipping options at this time. If you’re in a bind and need your order ASAP, email us at help@katejanerae.com and we’ll see what we can do.

Do you ship internationally?

Right now, we only ship within the US - but international friends, stay tuned! We’re working on it.

Do you offer local delivery?

Yes! If you are within a 15-mile radius of Pendleton, IN (46064 zip code), you can opt for local delivery.

If you qualify, local delivery will automatically be an option for you at checkout.

How do I unlock free shipping?

Spend $75 or more (after discounts, before taxes and fees) and shipping’s on us - no code required! The free shipping option will show up in your cart automatically once your order total surpasses $75 after any offers, discounts, coupon codes, etc. are applied.

My package arrived damaged or didn’t arrive at all...

If your order arrives damaged, or if your tracking information says “delivered” but nothing made it to your doorstep, send us an email at help@katejanerae.com. (If your package was damaged in shipping, please email us within 7 days of receiving it and include photos.) Our team will investigate and work with you to resolve the issue quickly.

What if I accidentally put in the wrong address?

Please email us at help@katejanerae.com right away! If your order hasn’t shipped yet, we can usually fix it. If it’s already on the move, we can’t guarantee we’ll be able to reroute it, but we’ll work with you on next steps.

I need to make a change to my order...

If you reach us at help@katejanerae.com before your order ships, we’ll work with you to make whatever adjustments you need. Once it’s shipped, changes aren’t possible, but you can request a return or exchange once you receive your items.

Returns & Exchanges

Do you offer a money-back guarantee?

Yes! We proudly offer a 30-day money-back guarantee on eligible items. If you’re not completely satisfied, send the product back in like-new condition within 30 days for a refund or exchange (see our return policy below for details).

What’s your return/exchange policy?

We want you to love your purchase, which is why we offer a 30-day money-back guarantee on almost everything we sell. Here’s how it works:

-Items must be unopened, unused, undamaged, and in like-new condition with all original packaging.

-Customers are responsible for return shipping costs, which will be deducted from any refund given. (We cannot refund original shipping or return shipping fees.)

-We cannot accept items that show signs of use, wear, damage, dirt, smoke, or that have been cut, sewn, or altered in any way.

-Returns/exchanges must be initiated within 30 days of delivery. Requests outside this window will be denied.

-Patterns, digital downloads, gift cards, closeout items, custom orders, and products noted as All Sales Final are not eligible for return or exchange.

How do I start a return or exchange?

It’s easy! Email us at help@katejanerae.com with your order number. We’ll confirm the items you want to return or exchange, then email you a return shipping label and instructions. Please ship your return within 10 days of receiving your label.

How long will it take to get my refund?

Once we receive your return and make sure it’s in like-new condition, refunds are typically processed back to your original payment method within 5-7 business days.

I found a flaw in the handmade item I purchased...

Every item we make is handcrafted by us, and while we aim for perfection, small variations can happen - that’s the beauty of handmade. Rest assured, we never sell anything we wouldn’t proudly use ourselves or gift to someone special.

If you discover an issue with one of our handmade items that you feel cannot be overlooked, we offer a 30-day money-back guarantee (see above for details).

The colors of the product I purchased look different in person...

Screens can be sneaky! We work hard to show colors true-to-life, but between camera settings, lighting, and your device screen (especially in low-power mode), shades may appear a little different.
